Positive Education

We believe that wellbeing is at the heart of education for children. Therefore, we are committed to a whole school approach for wellbeing through Positive Education.

The foundation of Positive Education is Positive Psychology and neuroscience. We use an evidence based approach paired with effective educational practice to teach students skills and strategies that they can continue to use throughout their lives. Positive Education is founded on relationships and building community in the classroom and in our whole school. Our goal is to provide opportunity for children to develop progressive skills enabling them to become holistic thinkers and responsible people.

Wellbeing is defined in five domains. These domains are physical, mental, social, emotional, and spiritual. The PERMAH model of Positive Education creates a framework in which students are explicitly taught these domains, along with strategies to help promote their happiness and importantly, achieve their own potential. The PERMAH model was developed by Dr. Martin Seligman, in conjunction with the Positive Psychology Centre at the University of Pennsylvania (USA), and trialled in several schools globally, to create effective teaching practice and the strategies needed for students to learn how to promote their own wellbeing.
